How do you encourage young people to talk about loneliness?

By bringing to life the words of those who have experienced it.

In response to a study which revealed young adults aged between 18-24 were the most likely demographic to experience loneliness, MerchantCantos worked with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport to support the UK Government’s #LetsTalkLoneliness campaign.

After conducting phone interviews with young people who were willing to share their personal experiences, we collaborated with 10 talented young animators - from some of the UK’s leading design colleges - to create a beautiful short film exploring the multifaceted theme of loneliness.

The film launched Loneliness Awareness Week at a special event in Leicester Square, before being used as part of a wider OOH advertising drive across 20+ sites in the UK, and a social media campaign which generated over 20,000 views in 8 weeks after launch.
